As part of an initial mapping and scoping phase, in 2009, the IWB Working Group included a work strand to allow members to submit case studies on IWB utilisation in schools.
These case studies, prepared according to a common template, were specifically intended to highlight good practice in a range of key areas so as to inform Phase II of the Working Group’s work programme, particularly in areas such as:
- different strategies for teacher professional development in relation to IWB and other interactive tools
- guidelines for effective IWB continuous professional development (CPD)
- pedagogical expertise to contribute to work on teacher professional development
- interoperability
- the use of alternative, innovative technologies
- good practice of how the integration of digital devices complements and broadens the scope and versatility of IWB use
- the possible production of generic advice and guidelines on the deployment and use of IWBs in schools.
- total cost of ownership (TCO) of IWBs with reference to comparative alternative technologies
- MoE and vendor strategies and tools for IWB content creation
- influencing vendors in relation to interoperability and common standards issues
- defining the scope and extent for further EUN research activities in this area.
The work on preparing, reviewing, and finalising the case studies took place between January and October 2009.
